This academic year (2022-2023) Psicontrol has the honour to reward our yearly Thesis Award to a Master’s student, graduating from KU Leuven – Brugge within the Faculty of Engineering Technology. Psicontrol believes in the next generation of engineers who are working on the new technologies of the future. Because of that, we think it is relevant to award a prize to the most outstanding Master’s thesis.

Prize Information

The Thesis Award Sponsored by Psicontrol consists of a monetary prize with a value of €250. This money will be transferred to the winner at maximum one month after the proclamation.

Requirements to apply

  • Thesis presentation must happen in June 2023
  • Graduation must happen in the summer of 2023
  • The student must be part of the KU Leuven – Brugge within the Faculty of Engineering Technology and obtaining a master degree in Electronics, ICT, Energy, or Artificial Intelligence in Business and Industry

Application procedure

Step 1: Application (closed)

The student must apply for the IEEE Thesis Award through the application form on this page. In this application form, the student must provide his full name, email address, and the title and the abstract of the Master’s thesis (in English or Dutch).
Submission deadline: 6th of June 2023, at 11:59 PM

Step 2: Selection (results announced)

A selected jury consisting out of Psicontrol employees, will select the five best abstracts based on the evaluation criteria. The selected students will be informed and announced on this page by at least 9th of June 2023.

Step 3: Presentation

On Wednesday 14th of June 2023 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM the selected students defend their thesis (in English or Dutch) for a jury consisting out of  Psicontrol employees and campus staff. Each defense is scheduled to last for a total of 30 minutes, consisting of a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of questions. The jury will evaluate the presentation, solely for the purpose of the Thesis Award based on the evaluation criteria. Every member of the jury will evaluate individually. Afterwards the jury will meet and add together all the individual scores. The final decision is still to be made by the jury.

Step 4: Proclamation

The Thesis Award Sponsored by Psicontrol will be awarded on 6th of July 2023 during the formal proclamation ceremony organized for all graduating students.

Evaluation Criteria

“We see” – Innovation and creativity

  • How innovative is the topic of your thesis or the solution to your thesis statement?
  • How creative was your input on the topic and the methods that you handled?

“We design” – Method & Maturity

  • How well did you describe the different methods you used and the results that came out of your thesis?
  • How mature is the thesis topic related to its potential future or current market?
  • We would like you to perform a short “Technology Readiness Level” Analysis (TRL). We would like you to
    explain your analysis.

“We produce” – Quality & Manufacturing readiness

  • How professional did you work on your thesis topic (milestones, planning, structure, …)?
  • How mature is the thesis topic related to manufacturing? We would like you to perform a short
  • “Manufacturing Readiness Level” Analysis (MRL). We would like you to explain your analysis.

“Strong together” – Language & Communication

  • How well did you get all your ideas across during the evaluation presentation?
  • How well did you answer the questions during the evaluation presentation?
  • How well did you work together with colleagues (gathering information, review of your ideas with a peer, …)?
