Celebrating World Standards Day

Every year on 14 October, IEEE Standards Association (SA) joins the international community in celebrating the importance of standards development and honoring the collaboration of individuals and organizations across the globe who drive technological innovation. First held in 1970, World Standards Day is commemorated in a variety of forms and themes to raise global awareness among industry, regulators, and consumers as to the value of standardization.

Our theme for this year’s celebration is “Raising the World’s Standards for the Protection of the Planet.“ Over the last century, large-scale industrial activities, rapid population growth, urbanization, and inequality have negatively impacted the earth, our lives, and the well-being of future generations. The concept of sustainable development has become more important than ever, and global standards play a key role in supporting the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of our planet and human society.

IEEE SA For Sustainable Development

IEEE SA contributes to sustainability by providing a neutral, open platform that brings together innovators across borders and disciplines to address challenges via technology. With thought leaders in more than 160 countries, we enable the collaborative exploration of emerging technologies, the identification of existing challenges and opportunities, and the development of recommendations, solutions, and technology standards that benefit industry and humanity; making technology better, safer, and more sustainable for the future.

1st Place – Steven HAuse loves making videos and is especially happy when his work can be used for something helpful and important.

2nd Place – Porter Christensen is a young ambitious lad studying Media Arts at Brigham Young University. He often films weddings, real estate, and promo videos, but is beyond excited to create educational content that spreads important information, like this video to create awareness around standards.

3rd Place – Zachary Tate is a teacher living in Japan. He likes to study language and culture. Zachary can speak Japanese and some Mandarin.
