IEEE CASMakers Program: Hybrid Machine Learning for Biomedical Applications
An enlightening workshop “Hybrid Machine Learning for Biomedical Applications” was held by IEEE IPB Students Branch for students on 5 December 2022 at Computer Science IPB Laboratory, IPB University. This program was fully sponsored by IEEE CASS Malaysia IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. This workshop is also led by Dr. Medria Kusuma Dewi H. and Dr. Karlisa Priandana of IPB University; and Putra Makers Space, with distinguished speakers Dr. Luthffi Ismail from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Dr. Toto Haryanto from IPB University.
First Session: Deep Learning Architectures for Cervical Cancer Identification Based on Histopathology Images
The first session started with “Deep Learning Architectures for Cervical Cancer Identification Based on Histopathology Images” by Dr. Toto Haryanto. First, a brief introduction to the danger of cervical cancer and the types of cancer that is Benign and Malignant tumor. Then, he elaborates on the necessity of feature extraction (the process of transforming raw data into numerical features that can be processed while preserving the information in the original data set) for image processing and the usage of Deep Learning to extract features automatically.
Second Session: Leveraging Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Medical Application
Following the several hours of the first session, the second session was “Leveraging Machine Learning and Deep Learning for Medical Application” by Dr. Luthffi Ismail. Firstly, he starts with the fundamental of machine learning that is Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Deep Reinforcement Learning. After that, followed by Human-Robot Interaction, in which he elaborates on the Improvement of Child-Robot Interaction among Children with Cognitive Impairment. He said that robots can help children to be more focused on doing tasks and help filled the position of therapist, but not replace them. This session ends with an explanation of Liver segmentation.
Dr. Medria, the counselor of IEEE SB IPB, honored the speaker Dr. Toto Haryanto and Dr. Luthffi Ismail with an Institute memento. The event concluded with overwhelming feedback from the participants.
