STEM 2023: A Full Day Workshop to Explore the exciting World of Informatics
What is IEEE STEM?
The IEEE IPB Student Programs Branch organized STEM 2023 with the goal of introducing high school students to the world.
The event, held on October 28, 2023, took place at the IPB University Computer Science Department. The activities included themed workshops like TryEngineering, Talkshow, and various other engaging sessions, all designed to provide participants with insights into the field.
STEM 2023 Activity Outline
The STEM activities kicked off with a talk show titled “STEM Talk: Computing and Their Importance to Future Careers.” Subsequently, the Try Engineering Workshop advanced, splitting into two concurrent sessions in separate rooms named Track 1 and Track 2. In Track 1, participants worked on Designing Prototype using Figma and Building Mobile Application, while in Track 2, they focused on Designing Prototype and Building Web Application. Post the workshop, an evaluation occurred until lunch. The program then resumed with Engineers Talks featuring alumni, concluding with the final segment, Fiend Tour and Demo.

The Try Engineering Workshop aims to generate student enthusiasm for software development through an interactive session. Students actively participate in the hands-on aspects of software design, acquiring valuable expertise and perspectives as they engage in two pathways: “Crafting Mobile Prototypes with Figma and Bravo Studio” and “Constructing Your Initial Website with TeleportHQ.”
Engineers Talks
Esteemed software engineers generously shared their career journeys and insights with the students. The topics ranged from “Career Experience in Software Engineering” to “Kick Start Your Journey to Become a UI/UX Designer”.
The remarkable turnout and students’ enthusiastic participation showcased a burgeoning interest in computing and technology among pre-university students. Additionally, the success of this event emphasizes the crucial need to nurture young talents in the field of computing and actively encourage their pursuit of careers in technology.
