On April 5th, 2025, the IEEE Dibrugarh University Student Branch successfully organized an insightful online session on "Machine Learning in High-Reliability Video Transmission," featuring Dr. Nidhi Simmon, lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow. The event, which witnessed participation from over 40 attendees, delved into the integration of machine learning and wireless engineering to enhance video transmission reliability. Dr. Simmon elaborated on model calibration, the role of neural networks, and the incorporation of wireless constraints like outage probability into machine learning models to significantly boost performance. She also presented real-world applications addressing freezing issues in wireless communication. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where participants clarified doubts and explored the practical implications of the discussed technologies.

  The IEEE Dibrugarh University Student Branch successfully organized an offline interactive session titled "POWER BI: Transforming Data into Insights" on 29th March 2025 at the Department of CSE, DUIET. The event featured Dr. Nomi Baruah, Associate Professor at Dibrugarh University, alongside speakers Rituraj Phukan, Tulika Chutia, and Mandira Neog. With over 80 participants from various departments, the session provided a comprehensive overview of Power BI, covering data analysis, report creation, dashboards, and data visualization techniques. Attendees gained hands-on experience in shaping and modeling data, using calculated columns, and building interactive dashboards. The event concluded with a Q&A session and a vote of thanks, leaving participants with valuable skills in data analytics and visualization and strengthening their foundation in Power BI.

GSoC Guidance: A Gateway to Open Source Excellence

On March 23, 2025, the IEEE Dibrugarh University Student Branch hosted an insightful online session featuring Mr. Anup Sharma, GSoC Student Contributor 2023 and current employee at Nutanix. The event attracted numerous participants eager to learn about Google Summer of Code (GSoC) and open-source contributions. The session began with a welcome address and an engaging quiz round to set the stage. Mr. Anup introduced attendees to open-source development, discussing prerequisites for contributions. He provided a detailed breakdown of the GSoC 2025 timeline, covering the application process, organization selection, proposal writing, and mentor communication. Special emphasis was placed on crafting a strong project proposal, using GitHub effectively, and understanding codebases. Additionally, Mr. Anup shared strategies for shortlisting organizations based on interest, skillset, and past records, along with practical tips on identifying issues, reading documentation, and making meaningful contributions. The session concluded with a Q&A discussion, allowing attendees to clarify doubts and gain deeper insights. The event wrapped up with a vote of thanks, leaving participants equipped with valuable guidance to embark on their GSoC journey.
