Many engineers entering real-world engineering environments are disappointed when their day-to-day work entails little of the in-depth, technical design they were exposed to at university. In some countries, electronic and telecommunications technologies in particular are mostly imported, with little being developed locally. However, in the absence of deep specialisation, these environments may be the perfect place to learn about the broader aspects of the engineering profession. In this talk, we look at how adopting the correct mindset can help you learn the kind of real-world engineering skills that will serve you for a lifetime.
Dr.Heinrich Laue received the B.Eng. (Electronic) and B.Eng.Hons. (Electronic) degrees, both with distinction, from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2015 and 2016, respectively. He received the Ph.D. (Engineering) degree from the same university in 2020 at the age of 28. His primary research interest being compressive antenna arrays, he has publications in journals and magazines of the IEEE Signal Processing, Antennas and Propagation, and Microwave Theory and Techniques societies. He has also acted as peer reviewer for several IEEE journal submissions. In 2019, he returned to his home country of Namibia and joined Namibia Water Corporation Ltd as a communications engineer, where he is mainly responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of telemetry systems, as well as the design of related SCADA systems. After barely two years in industry, he successfully registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Namibia as well as the Engineering Council of South Africa, the latter being a signatory to the Washington Accord.
Objective of 𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐄 𝐀𝐏-𝐒 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 is to inspire and inform AP-S Young Professionals (YP) on a variety of topics both technical and non-technical to enhance their interest and engagement in the field of Antennas and Propagation by delivering the talks at various chapters/sections “on-demand” virtually.
