"FIKRA'23"

FIKRA’23 kicked off with an inaugural ceremony featuring Ms. Rajalakshmi Srinivasan and Mr. Vijayakeerthi Jayakumar, including an MoU signing with the Computer Science department.

Day 1 had talks on entrepreneurship for social innovation and workshops on Business Model and Pitching by Mr. Suresh Veeraraghavan.

Day 2 featured Business Idea Pitching judged by experts, concluding with positive feedback and excitement for future editions.

Festx 23^2- National Level Symposium

The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems held a 1-day national symposium with technical and non-technical events, including Brain Spark and Battle Fest, along with game and food kiosks. Over 200 students participated, presenting innovative business ideas for potential funding.

Raja M, Product Marketing Manager at Zoho, delivered an inspiring valedictory speech on the importance of technology’s future. The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing winners, leaving attendees with valuable experiences and connections.

IEEE XTREME 17.0 Awareness session

On October 13, 2023, the IEEE Extreme Programming Competition 17.0 Awareness Session was conducted by Manish M (Chairperson – IEEE RS SEC SBC) offline and Sai Sakthivel R S (Vice-Chairperson – IEEE TEMS SEC SBC) online. The session aimed to promote awareness of this prestigious competition, covering its format, rules, and objectives while emphasizing teamwork, problem-solving, and coding skills.

The session showcased the benefits of participation, including networking, skill enhancement, and recognition within the tech community. Past success stories from the university’s teams were shared, inspiring students. With engaging content and interactive discussions, the session motivated attendees to form teams and tackle the IEEE Extreme Programming Competition 17.0.

Webinar on How to write Successful Research Article

Mr. Jagadish Kumar highlighted the importance of research articles for students, especially for strengthening higher education applications abroad. He outlined steps for selecting a topic, conducting a literature survey, and defining the study’s purpose with clear research methods.

He emphasized using tables and charts effectively, maintaining a consistent citation style, and using clear language. Additionally, he advised thorough proofreading and selecting a suitable journal, preparing students for potential revisions based on peer feedback.

Mentoring Minds

On August 18, 2023, the Department of Computer Science and Business Systems & SSEC IEEE TEMS SBC held “Mentoring Minds,” an entrepreneurial mentorship workshop for aspiring entrepreneurs. Coordinated by Mr. N. Jagadish Kumar, with Ms. Sujaya Rao, Co-Founder of TEENR, as the chief guest, the session included a welcome address by Dr. M. Ananthi and a Presidential Address by Dr. C. R. Rene Robin.

The workshop targeted 3rd and 4th-year students, especially Innovathon 1.0 winners, to promote startups and entrepreneurship on campus, concluding with a vote of thanks from Mr. Jagadish Kumar.

WORKSHOP IN FULL STACK DEVELOPMENT

The workshop began with a welcome address by Mr. Sivakumar, Associate Professor, CSBS, followed by Dr. M. Ananthi, HOD of CSBS, who addressed the gathering and honored the resource persons, Mr. Vijayakeerthi and Mr. Aravind, with a shawl and memento. The two-day event was hands-on, with the trainers engaging the students throughout.

On the first day, students learned HTML, CSS, FIGMA, and UI/UX. The sessions were interactive, as students were divided into teams to create designs on FIGMA. The best designs were recognized and appreciated by the resource persons, adding a competitive and engaging aspect to the training.

The second day covered Full Stack Development, including both front-end and back-end using Node.js. The trainers shared their extensive knowledge, which greatly benefited the students. The workshop concluded with enthusiastic feedback from students, highlighting the practical skills they gained, and closing remarks by Dr. Ananthi, who expressed her appreciation for the effort and dedication of the resource persons.

PLACEMENTSPRINT: RACING TOWARDS JOB OPPORTUNITIES

On August 1, 2023, the Department of Computer Science and Business Systems, in collaboration with IEEE TEMS, hosted an empowering event aimed at enhancing students’ skills for successful placements in their desired fields. Mr. Lakshmi Narayan NJ highlighted the dynamic nature of industries and the importance of diverse skill sets, urging students to research their respective sectors to identify key skills and qualifications sought by employers. He emphasized self-awareness, core strengths, and the significance of soft skills like communication, problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork in achieving professional success.

The event concluded with attendees feeling inspired and motivated to take charge of their careers. Mr. Lakshmi Narayan’s insights on building an impressive portfolio, crafting effective resumes and cover letters, and preparing for interviews resonated with students, equipping them with valuable strategies to excel in their future placements. Many students expressed gratitude for the practical advice shared, which they felt would give them a competitive edge in the job market. Overall, the event was a significant step in fostering career readiness among the participants.

Skillrack Awareness Program

The SkillRack Awareness Program was held on June 9, 2023, at the CSBS Lab to introduce participants to the platform and its benefits for skill development in computer science and programming. The event began with an overview of SkillRack, emphasizing its importance for students and professionals. Attendees engaged in interactive sessions exploring features such as coding challenges, contests, and practice exercises, facilitated by experienced SkillRack team members. Participants actively solved sample problems and discussed the platform’s functionalities, enhancing their understanding of its resources.

Testimonials from existing users highlighted real-life experiences and success stories, fostering a deeper connection with the platform. A Q&A session allowed participants to seek clarification and express interest in further exploring SkillRack. Feedback indicated a strong enthusiasm for the platform, with many attendees eager to incorporate it into their learning and skill development journeys.

SDG awareness program

The second-year students of CSBS gathered in the lab, where they were divided into six teams of ten to discuss the role of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in national development. They had 20 minutes to prepare their presentations, focusing on each SDG, the problems associated with them, and how they could contribute to these goals. Each team presented their insights, discussing the importance of the goals and drawing conclusions on their potential impact on the nation.

The session proved to be enlightening, providing students with a fresh perspective on the SDGs and fostering an environment for sharing thoughts and concerns. They voiced personal experiences related to the goals and emphasized their significance for both current and future generations. By the end of the session, students understood the spectrum of issues each goal addresses, their relevance to everyday problems, and how they can actively contribute to the goals and the country’s development.

Business Model Workshop

The second-year students discussed business models for their projects, focusing on effective design strategies and common pitfalls. The organizer emphasized the importance of robust business models and provided insights into their essential components.

By the end of the program, students learned to create a business model that outlines how a company generates and captures value, covering elements like target consumers and revenue streams. They also gained strategies to avoid pitfalls in implementing their ideas, highlighting the significance of a solid business model for future success.

IEEE Awareness Program

The program aimed to enlighten participants about IEEE, highlighting its significance in the technology sector and the numerous opportunities it offers for students and professionals alike. Presenters Sai Sakthivel R S and Rahul V, both second-year students in CSBS, captivated the audience with their extensive knowledge and engaging delivery. They provided informative sessions on the various benefits of IEEE membership, including access to technical resources and networking opportunities.

Interactive discussions further enriched the experience, allowing attendees to engage directly with the presenters and ask questions about IEEE’s impact on the future of engineering and technology. Participants learned about the organization’s initiatives, such as workshops and competitions, which foster professional development and innovation. Overall, the program equipped students with valuable insights into how IEEE can serve as a powerful platform for personal and professional growth.

The Department of Computer Science and Business Systems held a two-day national-level symposium featuring various technical and non-technical events. Chief guests Mrs. Rajalakshmi Srinivasan from Zoho Corporation and Mr. Banuchandran Kannan from Cognizant discussed AI’s growth and applications like ChatGPT. Highlights included competitions such as “Propose to Investors,” “Bloody Buggers,” and a 24-hour hackathon, Hackaholic, along with gaming and food stalls.

The symposium attracted over 300 students from various colleges, offering opportunities to interact with domain experts and present business ideas for sponsorship. It concluded with a prize ceremony where chief guest Mr. Rajmohan entertained the audience and announced the winners, who received certificates.
