About IEEE

IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE, pronounced “Eye-triple-E,” stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The association is chartered under this name and it is the full legal name. To learn more about the association’s name, for more information please read the History of IEEE.

About IEEE Madras Section:

The IEEE Madras Section is one of the most active sections in India, coming under Asia – Pacific Region, the Region 10 of IEEE covering Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry states. IEEE Madras Section was formally started, as a subsection of Bangalore Section, in 1973. This sub section was elevated into a full section, in 1978. IEEE Madras Section has several dedicated volunteers, who have been actively involved in making this one of the most active sections. IEEE Madras Section, has been represented regularly by a large number of members at annual India Council Events such as the All India Student Congress.

ABOUT IEEE SASTRA UNIVERSITY STUDENT BRANCH:
At SASTRA, the IEEE SASTRA University Student Branch was officially approved on the 12th of March and inaugurated on 6th April 2012 with a grand induction that included a Knowledge Leadership Lecture, presided by Major V.V.Chandrasekaran, Honorary Secretary & Student Activities Chair IEEE, Madras Section. Since then,the student branch has been active in the university, regularly conducting events on various technical and non-technical topics, inviting resource persons from inside as well as outside the university. As on January 2016, The Student Branch has around 20 active student members. The Student branch conducted its largest event, Students Professional Awareness Conference-2014 in March 2014 with around 220 participants from across the state. Some of the student members have represented IEEE SASTRA Student Branch at various IEEE Congresses, such as the IEEE All India Student Congress (in 2012, 2013 and 2015) and the Region 10 Students and Young Professionals Congress (in 2012).

VISION OF IEEE SASTRA UNIVERSITY STUDENT BRANCH:
The student branch aims to evolve a full-fledged technical team, the members of which will be involved in various activities such as conducting workshops, conferences and lectures. They will also actively represent the Student Body in the number of conferences organised by IEEE, thereby standing as an embodiment of IEEE’s vision.

* To arrange for regular events in the campus specifically dealing with latest technologies
* To work towards inspiring more students to become members
* To increase the Membership Retention, though the benefits of IEEE
* To form more Special Interest Groups to encourage project activity among the student members
* To kindle students interest in making new papers and projects
* To strive towards achieving more IEEE-sponsored awards and aim at representing papers in international conferences
