Guest Lecture on “Cognitive Radio”

7th April, 2018

A guest lecture was organised by on Cognitive radio and Location-based services: Theory to practice” by Mr. Ashish Pandharipande on 25th July 2018 at Electronics and Telecommunication department.  Prof. Vivek Ratnaparkhi started inauguration with brief details of topic and bio of the speaker. Mr. Ashish Pandharipande sir provided in depth details on cognitive radio with its theory and practices. Total 124 students benefitted from the guest lecture.

Abstract:

The design of current generation wireless systems has been driven largely by the objectives of supporting higher link data rates on the one hand and low-power, highly integrated radio devices on the other. While this evolution will continue into the future, the next generation of wireless systems will be based on new design paradigms as well with an increased focus on value-added services. In this talk, we shall focus on cognitive radio systems as a new design paradigm and indoor location-based services as a value-add on wireless systems. General principles that underpin cognitive radio and indoor positioning technologies will be presented.

Bio of the speaker:

Ashish Pandharipande received the B.E. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering  from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in 1998, the M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer  Engineering, and Mathematics, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from  the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 2000, 2001 and 2002, respectively.

Since then he has been a post-doctoral researcher at University of Florida, senior researcher at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, and senior scientist at Philips Research. He has held visiting positions at AT&T Laboratories, NJ, and the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He is currently Lead R&D engineer at Philips Lighting in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Ashish is a senior member of the IEEE. He is currently an associate editor for IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, and IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics. He is a member of International Advisory Board, Lighting Research & Technology Journal. He has more than 160 scientific publications in IEEE conferences and journals, and about 90 patents/filings, covering areas like IoT lighting, advanced sensing and control, data analytics and machine learning, and cognitive wireless systems.
