In collaboration with the IEEE Mangalore subsection, the IEEE Srinivas University Student Branch organized the National Level Paper Contest for Ph.D. students on 21-11-2020 in virtual mode. The contest is held in two categories- Computer Science and Computer Systems. About 50 research scholars have registered and submitted scholarly articles. Among them only 18 papers, 9 each from a category were selected for the final presentation.   The virtual inauguration of the contest was done at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Vasudeva, Counselor, IEEE Student Branch, SMVITM Bantakal, Treasurer, IEEE Mangalore Sub Section was the chief guest. In his address, he explained the importance of academic writing. “Scholarly writing is a valuable parameter in research. The researcher should get motivation from within. Some incentives in the form of awards or fellowships will enable the researcher to work more. A contest of this kind will motivate the researchers. The research is to be carried out even after Ph. D.” he opined.   Dr. Niranjan Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte, Past Chair, IEEE Mangalore Sub Section was the guest of honour. In his address, he explained the importance of scholarly writing. “It is a real challenge for a researcher to present the work of 1 or 2 years in just 15 minutes. Competitions of this kind will enable the researchers to communicate their work to others. A researcher should enjoy writing research papers” he said.   The programme was presided over by Dr. P. S. Aithal, Vice-Chancellor, Srinivas University, Head, IEEE Srinivas University Student Branch. In his presidential address, Dr. P S Aithal said “In 2020 use of technology reached its peak. If we handle technology effectively, we can lead a happy life effortlessly. There is huge scope for research in the development of new technologies. The quality of research improves only when we publish our work”.

Dr. Krishna Prasad K, Counselor, IEEE Srinivas University Students Branch welcomed the guests and mentioned the objectives of the National Level Paper Contest. Mr. Vinayachandra, Chair, IEEE IEEE SU SB proposed a vote of thanks. Mrs. Rajeshwari M., Chair, Programme Committee, IEEE SU SB compered the programme. Prof. Shridhar Acharya, Dean, College of Computer Science and Information Science, IEEE SU SB Faculty Advisor, Dr. A Jayanthila Devi, IEEE SU SB Branch Advisor were present on the occasion. Dr U C Nirajan, Chair, IEEE Mangalore Subsection and the office-bearers of IEEE Mangaluru Subsection were present during the event. The program was attended by more than 60 research scholars.
