Photonics Society CU SBC

Student Branch Chapter of Photonics Society at Calcutta University. We engage our audience and members in the domain of Photonics, Optical Engineering, Nano-Photonics and Astrophotonics and our Flagship Annual Science Fair STEX.

Our events include but not limited to hosting Webinars, Seminars, Workshops and Distinguished Lectures. We are working from Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta.

IEEE Photonics Society Kolkata chapter jointly with IEEE Photonic Society Calcutta University Student Branch Chapter and IEEE Calcutta University Student Branch organized program.

1. Outreach Programme for Science Day Celebration:                         Date and venue: 3rd April 2023, Siliguri Girls’ High School                          IEEE Photonics Society Kolkata chapter jointly with IEEE Photonic Society Calcutta University Student Branch Chapter and IEEE Calcutta University Student Branch organized an outreach program on 3rd April 2023 in Siliguri Girls’ High School, Darjeeling to celebrate National Science Day. The program was aimed to increase awareness and interest in science among the students of different schools. The participants were around 110 in number (Class IX-XII) from- Siliguri Girls’ High School and Siliguri Boys’ High School. After the inaugural function presided by Mrs. Atyuha Bagchi, the Headmistress of Siliguri Girls’ High School, there were two lectures, delivered by Prof N.R.Das and Dr. Bratati Mukhopadhyay on “Light around us” and “Career Opportunity in Light-based Technology” respectively. The program’s main emphasis was the demonstration of Hands-on models on different aspects of basic and applied sciences prepared by students of the IEEE student branch of Calcutta University and members of the IEEE Photonics Society Calcutta student Chapter. 14 IEEE members and 110 students and 18 teachers together with school staff from those aforementioned schools were present at this event. 2. Celebration of International Day of Light                                                Date and venue of Event: May 16, 2023, Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta                                                                       The event, organized by IEEE Photonics Society Kolkata Chapter, provides an excellent opportunity for young aspiring engineers and students (B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D. from all colleges and Universities) to showcase their innovative ideas on the theme “Photonics for Global Well-being”. 11 participants from different institution presented their ideas before the judges.
