About Us

The IEEE Peradeniya Student Chapter, established in 2001, is Sri Lanka’s first IEEE student branch. It was founded by Prof. JB Ekanayake with the goal of creating a platform for engineering students to explore and advance their knowledge in the field of electrical and electronics engineering. Over the years, the chapter has grown into a dynamic community of aspiring engineers who are dedicated to learning and contributing to the field of engineering.

In August 2014, the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Peradeniya Student Chapter was launched, with Prof. JB Ekanayake serving as the advisor. The IEEE PES is the second-largest society in IEEE and has a vast network of members and chapters worldwide. Its primary focus is on advancing technologies for energy generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization. The society brings together professionals from various fields to collaborate and innovate in the field of power and energy engineering.

The IEEE PES Peradeniya Student Chapter has been instrumental in promoting awareness and understanding of power and energy engineering among students in Sri Lanka. The chapter provides students with opportunities to engage in hands-on learning, networking, and professional development activities. Members can participate in workshops, seminars, and technical sessions organized by the chapter to gain insights into the latest developments and emerging trends in the field

In addition to its academic pursuits, the IEEE PES Peradeniya Student Chapter also actively contributes to the betterment of society through its community service projects. Through various initiatives, the chapter aims to apply the principles of engineering for the greater good of society.
