WORKSHOP ON LIGHT FIELD PROCESSING

Light fields is one of the cutting-edge research happening in the field of Computer Vision. It was a workshop organized by the IEEE Signal Processing Society Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa, which was held at the first IEEE EMBS International Student Conference 2021, organized by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa. It consisted of a discussion on the basic subject matter on Light Fields and also hands-on activities, which provided the opportunity for the attendees to experience the practical applications of the subject matter discussed.

The workshop commenced with the discussion of the underlying theory of light fields conducted by Dr. Chamira Edussooriya the first speaker for the workshop. It was followed by a discussion on many practical applications of light fields and how we could design and apply deep learning and signal processing algorithms to light field images, which was conducted by two speakers, Mr. Kalana Abeywardena and Mr. Sahan Hemachandra. Participants were also given the opportunity to join the slack workspace to ask questions and access study resources. Finally, the attendees were given the opportunity to apply the discussed techniques on Light Field images, at the hands-on activities session with the guidance of Dr. Chamira Edussooriya and instructors – Mr. Kalana Abeywardana, Mr. Sahan Hemachandra and Mr. Braveenan Sritharan. At the end of this very interactive and interesting session, participants were given tasks to be completed and submitted within one week, to which they will be evaluated and provided with a certificate of participation. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks by the Secretary of the IEEE SPS Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa.
