STEPS TO WRITE A TEXTBOOK: PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

This event was a joint effort of the IEEE IIUM student branch and Wireless Communication and Signal Processing Research Group IIUM. The target audience were postgraduate students, early researchers and faculty members. The speaker was Professor Dr Othman Omran Khalifa where he shared insights on his journey in writing books.
PROF. Othman emphasized developing peer collaboration, academic research participation, documenting and disseminating research, and compiling it into publishable material. Furthermore, using Motivation as the springboard to launch the academic career. He encouraged the faculty members to groom their research students in the writing practices and article compilation and development. The talk ended with all-around appreciation and suggestions from the attendees to conduct a weeklong workshop to cover the various aspects of textbook writing, compilation, and publication.

A webinar organized by the IEEE IIUM student branch, Dr Nurul Fazlin bint Hashanah, was invited. Dr Fazlin shared her Research Journey, researcher Characteristics, and how a researcher can stay motivated by corning out procrastination. Moreover, DR Fazlin emphasized how Purifying intentions and hard work are essential elements in every researcher’s path. She also shared practical tips to overcome problems due to pandemics affecting researchers progress. The students from across the globe benefitted from her talk.

IEEE IIUM SB 25TH Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty of Engineering
Kulliyyah of Engineering (KOE) IIUM has been organized its 25th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday 11th March 2020 9 am, officiated by IIUM President YBhg Dato Dr Mohd Daud Bakar.
The day has been celebrated with different activities like Cultural Activities, Research and Innovation Exhibition, Opening Ceremony of “CUTe” and “MAKERS” research group, MOU signing Ceremony, KOE TAKRIM Awards giving Ceremony, Refreshments and many more Student Activities. Therefore, there is a counter booth had been set up by the IEEE IIUM SB to show activities and encourage to become IEEE Member. Besides, a poster has been attached in the exhibition titled “IEEE IIUM SB Events Showcase”.

IEEE IIUM SB Committee Meeting
IEEE IIUM SB has arranged a general committee meeting on 2nd March 2020. The meeting has been called to plan for the upcoming events. Therefore, planning, schedule and organizational tasks are finalized by the core committee members. IEEE IIUM SB Farewell Party of Previous Counselor
The IIUM SB has arranged a farewell party to celebrate of successful ending of the IEEE IIUM SB counselor period of Prof. Dr. Sheroz Khan. It is an honor of giving respect to Dr. Sheroz Khan. The IIUM SB is grateful to him for his serving during the whole period. He has always been an active supervisor to arrange, organize and implement of all the activities during his time.

ECE Department Seminar titled “Change Management Strategies”
An informational Seminar has been organized in the ECE department by IEEE IIUM SB and co-organized by IEEE Unikl SB. A distinguished lecturer has been invited namely Dr. S. Ismail Shah. Dr. S. Ismail Shah is the ITU Area Representative for Southeast Asia and Head of ITU office for Southeast Asia and Timor-Leste. He is a renowned ICT professional, with expertise and experience spanning IMT (3G, 4G, 5G) based cellular technologies, Internet, spectrum management, Internet of Things, Child Online Protection and Rural Broadband. However, the seminar was on Change Management Strategies. Whether it is an organization or individual, change is inevitable. Companies who do not change with time eventually go out of business. Similarly, individuals who do not change are not able to progress in their lives. Change management is a systematic approach to dealing with the transition or transformation of an organization’s goals or individual’s goals. The purpose of change management is to implement strategies for effecting change, controlling change and helping people to adapt to change. Around 20 members were attended in the seminar including 12 IEEE members

IEEE IIUM SB Reporting
In the light of letter by the IIUM Finance Director, a meeting Chaired by the Dean of Engineering, and consisted of four IIUM Finance staff, HOD of Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept, Deputy Dean of Students Affairs, took place. I, as IEEE IIUM Student Branch Counsellor, had to explain: 1) Why and how the IEEE IIUM SB Bank Account is opened, 2) How it is maintained, 3) Money-in & Money-withdrawal, 4) Account signatories. “The IEEE IIUM SB (STB65011 – Intl Islamic Univ Malaysia) Bank Account is opened through Registrar of Society Registration No PPM-001-10-25111987 I got from the IEEE Malaysia Section. The Account is adjusted before the AGM of every year. The Money-in is from shares of surplus we make from our Technically/Financial Cosponsored Conferences & events, and from the annual allowance we get every year for activities from the IEEE Section and IEEE Region-10 Rebate vouchers. “So far IEEE IIUM SB in partnership with the IEEE IM Malaysia Chapter, has sponsored IEEE SCORED, ICETAS, ICIRD, ICISE, ICCCE”, I explained to the meeting, “Money-OUT takes place with the signatures and presence of 2-out-3 signatories (Counsellor, Chair, and Treasurer). We support activities such as Students Membership promotion, Technical Talks, Workshops, and Technical Tutorials/Seminars; also, we support FYP awards and arrange social gathering such RAMADAN IFTAR, RAYA GATHERING. We support buying IEEE IIUM SB Shirts,” I explained. The meeting ended with a note of satisfaction by the IIUM Finance Team. While appreciating my activities, they suggested to keep on following strictly the finance rules.

The IEEE Student Conference on Research and Development (SCOReD) has been a successful series of annual conference since 2001. In line with its predecessor events, the IEEE SCOReD 2017 is focusing on the findings by research students, post-doc fellows and research associates in the institutions of higher learning pursuing research degrees exploring various fields including electrical, electronics, communication, biomedical engineering, materials, renewable energy, mechatronics and professional engineering ethics. The IEEE Malaysia Section has transformed it into an event that is going beyond the borders of Asia Pacific Region. The IEEE SCOReD 2017 is organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and co-organised by the IEEE Malaysia Section and the IEEE SB UPM.
