Special Events Held:
IEEE WIE SKILLUP
1) Enlightening the public(particularly the ladies) at our IEEE Tech brush up on the importance of being a woman in engineering and an active participant in the innovative process. They were also introduced to the IEEE WIE affinity group and the benefits of being registered members.
2)During the ongoing ASUU strike, it was noticed that a lot of students wanted to learn a skill but they had no mentors to help out. It is in light of this that IEEE WIE FUTO and IEEE WIE UNILAG collaborated and organized a free virtual training for ladies that lasted for a month.
The crux of the training was to mentor and empower ladies on four tracks within the technology field, namely:
1)UI/UX design.
2)Back-end web development with python.
3)Front-end web development with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
4)Technical Writing.
We had an influx of applications from different university students and graduates across Nigeria but only 60 applicants were selected.
Our facilitators were students from FUTO and UNILAG who were experienced in their field and volunteered to help train these ladies.
Participants had an onboarding session, and after a series of lectures, they were assigned projects by their mentors which they were expected to submit at specified deadlines.
More details about the training can be seen on the flyer below.
At the end of the program, mentees were advised to register and become members of IEEE.
