Event Review: Introduction to University of Birmingham IEEE Student Branch (PES Chapter) & Membership Drive

The University of Birmingham IEEE Student Branch (PES Chapter) officers are invited by the MSc course leader to give an introduction of their student branch and PES chapter to the MSc students in Electrical Power Systems at the University of Birmingham, to raise the awareness of the IEEE student branch and develop the membership drive.

Time & Date: 11:30 am – 12:00 am (UK time), 13th Oct. 2022

More than 70 MSc students participated in this event. The Assistant Professor at the University of Birmingham, Dr Daniel Donaldson, firstly introduced the student branch and highlighted the benefits of making the most of the IEEE and PES resources. Then he introduced the speakers, Nan Chen and Zixuan Jia to the audience.

The current Student Branch and PES Chapter Chair, Nan Chen then gave a detailed introduction of the student branch. By using an example of the registration fees for an IEEE international conference as student/member/non-member, the monthly free magazines, etc, Nan Chen explained the benefits of joining the student branch and PES chapter.

Then Zixuan Jia, the secretary of the student branch, gave a brief introduction to their experience of participating the IEEE R8 Student & Young Professional Congress 2022 event. Diverse

During the Q&A session, Nan Chen and Zixuan Jia gave further explanations to questions raised by the MSc students, and some of students showed their willingness of getting known about the student branch and joining the team.
