PES student branch is a group of undergraduate and graduate students enthusiastic in the domain of Power and Energy in Clemson University. As a student branch chapter under IEEE PES, the organization promotes academic and social activities for the development of power & energy.

  • February 10, 2020: John McDonald, P.E., presented on key insights to career management. Abstract: There are 12 important things to keep in mind when living and managing your career to achieve your goals. These were explained and explored with examples and photographs based on my 45 years as an engineer, manager and executive managing people’s careers, and 48 years as an IEEE member. Your career is your career, and understanding your priorities (which can change) and your company’s objectives can help you have a rewarding and fulfilling career.


  • November 18, 2019: Drew Clarke presented on coordination and optimization of transmission, generation and distribution planning from Duke Energy’s perspective. As power systems are going through a tremendous change with the advent of renewable energy based DERs, traditional boundaries among transmission, generation and distribution are becoming vague. Duke Energy is coping up with this challenge by coordinating everything together and calls it Integrated System and Operations Planning (ISOP).
