Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the ways we work and live our lives, many guidelines have been created from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) to mitigate the spread of this virus. NJIT has adapted many of these measures and is enforcing them for both students and faculty. On top of this, the NJIT Student Life is also creating its own set of guidelines tailored for student organizations and the work that they do. IEEE NJIT is in a unique position where we occupy both NJIT Student Life but also serve the ECE Department. It is in both interests that we come up with our unique set of guidelines to satisfy both parties and also ourselves. This information will be made public for the sake of awareness through all communication methods and our website.

ECE Student Lounge

Although the ECE Student Lounge is in sole ownership of the ECE Department, IEEE NJIT maintains and uses the space as well. Our plan to encourage social distancing is to limit the occupancy of the space to 50% of the maximum occupancy and promote early closing of the space to 7:00 PM (For if/when the semester starts and there are physical classes) In addition all visitors and officers must wear a mask or face coverings. Officers will have the added responsibilities of frequently cleaning the spaces as see fit.

Update 8/31/2020: The ECE Student Lounge will be closed until further notice to visitors.

IEEE Store

The IEEE Store (FMH104A) is what attracts many students into the space. Since this is a place where students frequently gather to chit chat and relax, our goal is to limit the maximum occupancy to 4 people (2 Officers and 2 visitors or 1 Officer and 3 visitors). The officer managing the store according to the schedule must also frequently clean anything that was last interacted with by a visitor to prevent visitor to visitor spread. In addition, the officer managing the store must wear gloves in addition to face coverings. This space will also have limited hours and will close early.

Update 8/31/2020: The IEEE Store will be closed until further notice to visitors unless a FED/ECE Component Kit is being purchased or picked up. Open our “Store Services” Page for more information.

IEEE Workshop

The IEEE Workshop (FMH104B) is a space that students and the Solar Car team use to create projects and complete laboratory assignments using the provided equipment. In addition, this space is frequently used as a meeting space or a place to quietly study. To encourage social distancing standards the space will be closed to all visitors unless requested through an officer or the IEEE Store. All requests will be scrutinized through checking of the current occupancy, the time of request and what work the visitor will do if granted the space. All visitors and officers occupying the space must wear face coverings and must wear gloves when operating any tools or equipment. For the officers in the Solar Car team, they must coordinate a visiting schedule that must be viewed by the Lab Bench Manager officer or any member of the IEEE NJIT E-Board.  The Lab Bench manager officer must clean the space once in the morning and again in the afternoon. (Less frequent to respect the schedule of the Lab Bench Manager)

Events

All events will be subjected to the guidelines given by NJIT Student Life. Events will take place online as much as possible. In the case an event takes place physically, the event will host no more than 25 people and must take place in a large environment where social distancing can take place. All participants must wear face covering and must maintain the recommended distancing when necessary.
