Thursday, March 30th, 2023

Current HKN Region 5/6 Governor and IEEE R5 South Area Chair Christopher Sanderson, SMIEEE, SMASQ, CSSBB, CLSSBB visits UNT for a lecture entitled “What are Standards?…Your Sustainability Career Superpower” as part of the North Tech-SAS Lecture Series.

Abstract

Standards form the fundamental building blocks for product development by establishing consistent protocols that can be universally understood and adopted. This helps fuel compatibility and interoperability and simplifies product development, and speeds proof of concept. As standards are globally adopted and applied in many markets, they also fuel international trade. We will also talk a little about Utility Scale Battery Solutions and the standards that will be applicable to the Smart Grid of tomorrow.

  • The energy industry is undergoing a pivotal transformation where the electric infrastructure is changing to a more decentralized model toward more sustainable energy solutions.
  • With more than 80% of the total energy produced globally coming from fossil fuel-powered thermal plants, we are seeing a trend of reducing water consumption and altogether shifting away from this kind of energy production.
  • Energy efficiency initiatives and technologies are increasingly implemented across the globe.
