Hello parents and guardians!

The Robotics and Automation Society, a branch of IEEE, at the University of North Texas is proud to announce our virtual Future Innovators Workshop! This completely free K-12 STEM outreach event provides your student with an introduction to microcontrollers and circuits through an engaging one-hour workshop where the students will walk through a complete project.

Prior to the event, we will mail to you a full kit complete with an Arduino Uno and over 35 other components to start your student’s journey into programming and electronics. Most importantly, this entire kit is completely FREE at no cost to you. Along with the kit, we will provide an online educational manual with a number of different projects to allow your student to continue learning well after the conclusion of the workshop.

These workshops are divided into three classes: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Every student will receive the full kit of components, but the different workshop levels will be tailored based on the students’ prior experience. Example projects include the basics from an LED nightlight and an electronic buzzer up to more complex projects such as an IR remote and microcontroller programming.

The schedule for the workshops is as follows:
Saturday February 20th:

  • Beginner — 9:00am to 10:00am
  • Intermediate — 10:30am to 11:30am

Sunday February 21st:

  • Beginner — 1:00pm to 2:00pm
  • Intermediate — 2:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Advanced — 4:00pm to 5:00pm

If you would like to sign your student up for this exciting free event, please fill out the form at https://forms.gle/3A4VVpYp5Zf2UShH6. We will be mailing out the kits to the address provided in the form through USPS so that you will receive them within the week before the event. Emails will also be sent out to those registered before the event with instructions on how to join and prepare for the meeting. We only have 19 spots per class, so register soon before they all fill up!

If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at nicholaschiapputo@my.unt.edu.

We hope to see you and your student soon!
