In this talk I will describe my work on using self supervised learning (SSL) for medical image analysis. In the absence of labeled data SSL has shown tremendous gains for many deep learning applications such as image classification and segmentation. I will discuss applications of SSL to medical image augmentation, stain normalization and registration of histopathology images. The results highlight the gains achieved in using SSL for medical image analysis tasks and the potential to achieve better performance than state of the art methods.
Biography of the Speaker:
Dwarikanath Mahapatra is a Senior Research Scientist at the Inception Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Abu Dhabi, UAE. His current research focus is on applying AI and deep learning to challenging problems in computer vision and medical image analysis. He obtained his Ph.D. from NUS Singapore and worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at ETH Zurich. Thereafter he worked as a Research Scientist at IBM Research Melbourne. He has co-authored more than 80 papers in the area of medical image analysis.
