The IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee recognizes the importance of research and dissemination of the findings for The IEEE Region 10 Student Activities Committee recognizes the importance of research and dissemination of the findings for the advancement of science and technology. Researching, writing, and presenting a paper provides students with invaluable early experience in communicating ideas related to their professional fields. The contest offers IEEE Student members an opportunity to exercise and improve both written and verbal communication skills.

Assessment Criteria

Each paper will be reviewed by at least three or more judges for:
• Written presentation (worth 40%) with the following scoring criteria:
• Concise, informative abstract
• The flow of ideas, integration of literature to support purpose, approach and findings
• Adequacy of the conclusion
• Compliance with paper format guidelines (IEEE Format)
• Clarity and direction in exposition
• Grammar, spelling, style, and choice of words
• Subject matter (worth 60%) with the following scoring criteria:
• Originality of ideas, experimental procedures, processes, results or conclusions due mainly to the main author
• Originality in analysis, interpretation, and restatement of inference based upon work of contributing authors
• Quality of technical content
• Factual and technical accuracy

Prizes

A total of THREE WINNERS will be chosen. The winners will be awarded the following prizes including money and an e-certificate:
1st place: USD 300
2nd place: USD 200
3rd place: USD 100

WIE Best Paper Award: USD 200
If the first or second prize winner is a female student then in that case, the WIE prize will be given to the runner-up in the WIE category. However, a female student can win both third and WIE prizes provided that the total value of combined prizes is no more than the first prize.

In the case of co-authored papers, the prize money shall be divided equally among the student authors who are IEEE members, who will also have his/her name printed in the certificate.

The winners and a selection of good quality papers will be recommended to IEEE R10 flagship conference TENCON for acceptance subject to another review by the conference reviewers. The accepted papers will be invited for presentation at TENCON at their own expense. All papers presented at the conference will be published in the TENCON Proceedings.

Record

The IEEE R10 Students Activities Coordinator will notify the result of winners by email to the R10 Sections, on the R10 Website and R10 Newsletter.
A record of winners is kept in R10 archives.

Region 10 SAC will launch the contest by announcing it on the online media and sending an email notification to all SB, SB Chapters and Affinity Groups. R10 cannot guarantee that the email notification will reach each and every Student Branch in the region. It is therefore, Section Chairs’ responsibility to make it certain that the information about the contest reaches out to all Student Branches and universities within their geographical boundaries.
