IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter
Sri Sai Ram Engineering College
Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai, established in the year 1995 by MJF.Ln.Leo Muthu, Chairman of Sapthagiri Educational Trust, is a non-profitable, and non-minority institution. A well defined vision, highly committed mission and dedicated leadership facilitate Sri Sairam Engineering College to be in the best of educational institutions in the country. Since its inception , our Institution has grown into a vast conglomerate of magnificent buildings, state-of-the art and sophisticated laboratories internet centres, modern library and a superlative sports complex-each a land mark in itself across 300 acres. Its quiet and idyllic surroundings, comprising of the architecturally and aesthetically designed buildings, the sports playgrounds and the lush greenery make it one of the most preferred destinations for the aspirants of Engineering studies. The College is affiliated to Anna University and is also approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.
Imbibed with the message of Shridi Saibaba, our Chairman ventured into the realm of providing quality technical education to both urban and rural students from Tamilnadu as well as other states, offering a flexible and real world based approach in education.
Sri Sairam Institute of Management and Computer Applications, also a unit of Sri Sairam Engineering College, was established in the year 1997 and it offers MBA and MCA programmes . Our Chairman has not only stopped with his vision of providing Technical Education but has also ventured into the arena of medical sciences, by starting a Medical College for Indian Medicine namely Siddha, Ayurvedha & Homeopathy. He was also instrumental in starting “The Academy for Blind” and “Home for the aged” under the community service programmes of the Lions Club.
Today, Sri Sairam Engineering College has developed into a reputed Engineering Institution with ISO:9001:2008 certifications, and NBA Accreditation to all the disciplines of engineering. Technical bodies like ISTE, IEEE, SAE, ISA, ISOL and IETE are vibrantly functioning with workshops, guest lectures and conferences. NSS, YRC, National Environment awareness campaign, Energy and Eco-Club are religiously conducting various activities. The department of Training, and Counseling and Placement is another sphere where we have made excellent strides. For offering top quality technical education and moulding the younger generation to the society, our Chairman has spared no efforts to induct dedicated faculty and provide adequate infrastructure facilities.
IEEE Power and Energy Student Branch of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College was formed on 10th Jan 2015.From then, we have been very active and vibrant till this date. Since then it has organized many events to provide outstanding value to its members. The objective of starting IEEE PES Student branch was to create awareness about the day today technological developments and to make them to utilize the resources available in IEEE PES. And to make most of our student members involve themselves in publishing research papers and projects
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. IEEE is the trusted “voice” for engineering, computing, and technology information around the globe.
There are more than 430,000 IEEE members in more than 160 countries. The IEEE publishes a third of the world’s technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics and is a leading developer of international standards that underpin many of today’s telecommunications, information technology, and power generation products and services.
IEEE’s roots go back to 1884 when electricity began to become a major influence in society. There was one major established electrical industry, the telegraph, which since the 1840s had come to connect the world with a data communications system faster than the speed of transportation. The telephone and electric power and light industries had just gotten underway.
IEEE, pronounced “Eye-triple-E,” stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. The association is chartered under this name and it is the full legal name. To learn more about the association’s name, please read the History of IEEE.
Power and Energy Society (PES)
The Power & Energy Society (PES) provides the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and for educating members of the industry and the general public. Members of the Power & Energy Society are leaders in this field, and they — and their employers — derive substantial benefits from involvement with this unique and outstanding association.
The Mission of PES is:
To be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for our members ~ Approved by the IEEE PES Governing Board, 17 July 2003
PES Field of Interest is:
The scope of the Society embraces research, development, planning, design, construction, maintenance, installation, and operation of equipment, structures, materials, and power systems for the safe, sustainable, economic, and reliable conversion, generation, transmission, distribution, storage and usage of electric energy, including its measurement and control.
Student Branch Vision
