The IEEE Photonics Society of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College[SBC60981E] organised “SPOTLIGHT,” a flagship event for first and second years from May 16th to May 26th, 2023, in honour of International Light Day 2023. The finale was held on May 26th from 1.00PM to 4.00 PM (IST) at Sri Sai Ram Engineering College. The event Spotlight is a technological one. The event is intended to display diverse types of art, however the art must include a light source (such as LED, LASER, or similar). Students are urged to begin working on their art projects well in advance of the event, where the finished result is expected to be presented. The art should be based on the specified topics.The event organised in 2 rounds ,for the First round of competitions nearly 200 students participated and 100 students are selected for second round with the suggestions of displaying the art using LED and other light sources.

Most of the projects were very attractive and made the audience and Jury members as interesting one. SHANMUGHA JEYASHREE B (CHAIRPERSON SEC IEEE PHOTONICS SOCIETY) provided a brief introduction to the event’s flow. Dr BRINDHA SAMINATHAN -SEC IEEE SB COUNSELLOR& ADVISOR then shared her thoughts about this interesting light based competition which will definitely kindle the interest of the students towards Photonics. As a result, in future many students may take up projects in optical domain ,also explored the opportunities for the students community. The event’s chief guest was Dr T D SUBASH,IEEE PHOTONICS SOCIETY’S GLOBAL STRATEGY REPRESENTATIVE for India.The chief guest appreciated the efforts of the participants and motivated the participants to apply for travel grant opportunities available for students to attend Photonics signature Conference at USA. Also he touched upon other major benefits of being an IEEE Photonics society. Ms. Myvizhiselvi ,Mr. Gopi. K., Mr.Tony Santhosh G., and were on the jury. The creations were shown, and a variety of pleasant events were also conducted. Cash awards were given to first 3 winners. The E-certificates were given to all attendees. The event was co-ordinated by Dr Brindha Saminathan, IEEE SEC SB Counselor.

The Speaker Mr Tabil Ahmmed from Bangladesh chapter shared his IEEE journey with the audience with full of enthusiasm and interest Participants from various departments attended this talk.

IEEE Photonics society Student Branch Chapter (SBC) of Sri Sairam Engineering College on account of celebrating the International Day of Light, organized the “PHOTONICS AND LIGHT” quiz on 09.05.2022. The quiz conducted in hybrid mode by zoom meeting and physically at Alpha Hall at 2.30 PM. Participants from various departments attended “PHOTONICS AND LIGHT” quiz actively.

The following topics were discussed: Types of observing systems, ocean present state monitoring, various satellite for monitoring and communication, roving sensors, radio communications land- base etc,. The Speaker of this session is Dr. Tata Sudhakar, a Scientist, National Institute of Ocean Technology, Chennai, India. Participants from various departments attended “OCEANS OBSERVATIONS”.
