2016 Entrepreneurship Carnival

Persatuan Mahasiswa Mahasiswi Kejuruteraan (PEMAJU), in association Majilis Perwakilan Pelajar(MPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has organized an Entrepreneurship Carnival in view of Entrepreneurship Week on the 19th to 21th October 2016 . This program was held around the compound of the engineering faculty. The activities that were carried out were a technical talk and sales from each engineering department. IEEE Student Branch Universiti Putra Malaysia (IEEESB UPM) has participated in this event by setting up booths to sell electrical and electronic related products to the students in the engineering faculty.

            The purpose of this program was to instil and motivate undergraduates to cultivate skills needed to breach the business world and become a successful entrepreneur. The technical talk was held on Friday, 21th October, to help students understand the important characteristics in a successful entrepreneur and the criteria of a successful and well organised business.

            From 19th to 21th October 2016, an ongoing carnival sale was carried out by different engineering departments. Each department was provided with a booth to help facilitate the sales of their products. Each engineering department was given the liberty to sell products that are related to their field of study and all profits will go to their respective societies. IEEESB UPM participated in this event by selling products such as pendrives, breadboards and microcontroller-based kits. Used textbooks and reference books were also collected to be sold to those who were interested. All products were sold and profits from the sale were received by IEEESB UPM.

            IEEESB UPM members participated in this event by managing the booths at different intervals. IEEESB UPM members from 2nd year to 4th year of Electrical and Electronic Engineering took part in making sure the booth was operational from 10am to 5pm.

            In conclusion, this event was carried out successfully and each department, including IEEESB UPM have benefited from it. Further programs such as this can be held in the future with more activities such as game-booths that are set up to promote each engineering departments field of study with interesting and innovative ideas that can boost sales as well as enlighten the society of the benefits enjoyed through research in each engineering department. The organisers have taken a small step in building the interest of undergraduates to become entrepreneurs that are innovative and successful.
