2020 Option Talk

On the 8th December 2020, IEEE Student Branch Universiti Putra Malaysia (IEEESB UPM) has organised a “Option Talk” which had been participated by 56 students from Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Honours, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). All of the participants are from third year of Bachelor Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Honours as this was a introduction talk for them to choose their option in the coming sixth semester. The option talk was organised by the Committee member of IEEESB UPM which is the program director for this program, Tan Hooi Chee, and supervised by Dr. Haslina Binti Jaafar.

There are three speakers for this option talk which are:

1. Power engineering option talked Assoc. Prof. Dr Norhafiz Azis

2. Microelectronic engineering option talked by Assoc. Prof. Dr Suhaidi Shafie

3. Control engineering option talked by Assoc. Prof. Dr Shamsul Bahari Mohd Noor

The objectives of this “Option Talk” are to help the participants to know better about each option that should be chosen by each third-year students of Bachelor of Engineering Electrical and Electronic. The participants will be asked to fill in the option form at the end of the talk.

The impacts of this program are that participants able to increase their leadership among students in achieving a goal that has been set and foster a sense of sharing knowledge among students. The participants also be encouraged to apply the knowledge obtain a develop creatively. They are also developing a network between IEEE member for future activities.

The participants were given an introduction of the speaker and an introduction regarding the three options which are available for their choice. The participants also knew in detail about the information of three options which are power engineering option, control engineering option and microelectronic engineering option. These included the future, career and knowledge will be learnt in each option if they are choosing one of the options.

The webinar was conducted for two hours from 10am until 12pm. When the session of each option was over, there was 10 minutes of Q&A session afterwards where participants had the opportunity to ask any question regarding the option to the presenter. In conclusion, the program ran smoothly, and the participants were hoped to be able to apply the knowledge gained for them to choose their option in the upcoming semester.
