International Women in Engineering Day 2018: Roles and Opportunities for Female Engineers in the North East

At The IEEE Nothumbria Student Branch and in particular WIE Northumbria Affinity group have a strong commitment toward rising awareness of women for encouraging them to become a future engineers in various fields and this was obvious through the events we had been organised so far. Last Saturday, on 23 of June, Chair of WIE Northumbria, Geetika Aggarwal was attend as guest speaker to lead the student panel of Northumbria University at International Women in Engineering Day 2018 event. INWiED 2018 had been organised by Institute of Mechanical Engineers IMechE Tyne & Wear Young Members Committee in association with Northumbria University.

This event was aimed at GCSE and sixth form students, college and university students, young professionals or anyone who wants to celebrate Women in Engineering Day, providing an

– Opportunity to network with companies & current engineering professionals
– A student panel of female students from Northumbria and Newcastle University
– Learn about the careers available within engineering
– Celebrate the successes of local women in engineering

The event hosted different speakers who talked about the roles and opportunities for female engineers in the North East.

On this occasion, the IEEE NSB Executive Committee extend their gratitude to ‘Dr. Antonio Portos’, NUSTEM Outreach Specialist: Secondary Science & Ogden Science Officer for organising the event with IMechE. Special thanks to ‘Itoro Emembolu’, PhD Researcher , NUSTEM Senior Research Assistant, Northumbria University for the time and support towards representing the student panel along with Geetika Aggarwal, PhD Researcher, Northumbria University.
