A Message from the Chair

Welcome to the University of Glasgow Student Branch of the IEEE, the largest professional organisation in the world. We are here to improve your student experience and help you become the best engineer you can.

Promoting technology and knowledge exchange among members and teaching invaluable skills needed in the industry and academia are our key objectives. To this end, we currently run a monthly webinar series where academic and industry experts discuss technologies shaping the world. We also organise social events to promote cultural exchanges among members to grow their network. Finally, we organise one-of-a-kind industry and academic career “speed dating” events. During “the date” professionals share their personal stories, tips for succeeding in their industry and advice on applications. By giving our members a peek into what professionals do day-to-day, these events can help them decide what kind of career they want for themselves in the future.

Furthermore, we work closely with the IEEE to provide our members with access to all of their competitions, seminars and conferences. We will also prepare members to make competitive applications to the IEEE Region 8 mentoring program. There is a lot planned for the coming year to give you a head start over your peers. We hope you join us as we continue to grow the society to serve future engineers better.

I wanted to start a new society that focused on on-going developments in academia and industry. By doing so, students would be given access to a wealth of current information and contacts that would allow them to make more informed choices when pursuing their chosen career path.
