Topic: Recent Developments in India’s National Solar Mission
Speaker: Dr. Juzer Vasi, National Centre for Photovoltaic Research and Education,Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
Date: 11th July 2018
India has embarked on an ambitious programme to install 100 GW of solar energy by 2022. This will have many benefits, including rapidly ramping up installed electricity capacity, bringing power to under-served areas, harnessing green energy, and helping to mitigate climate change. It also provides many new opportunities for technology and industrial development, and for high-tech manufacturing in India. But there are challenges as well – of getting costs down, ensuring use of reliable technologies capable of lasting 25 years in the field, and progressing at a rapid pace during the remaining 4 years. Our path to the 100 GW target will also be a model for other countries of the International Solar Alliance, in which India is playing a major role. This talk will touch upon some of these aspects, and review the developments which have taken place in the last 2-3 years.
