The Jenkinson 2023 Application Scheme Portal is now open. The theme for 2022-23 is applied research. The Closing Date for applications is 31 May 2022.  The scheme this year incorporates the Ryley Research Internship Awards with applicants for Jenkinson able to bid for Internship Awards.

APPLIED RESEARCH FOR TIRI

Process

The deadline for submissions is 31 May 2022 at 23:59. This portal will close automatically at that time and no further submissions will be accepted by the system (including applications in progress at that time).

All applications will be reviewed by a Panel chaired by Professor P McGhee and outcomes announced in June 2022.  Funding allocated under this round must be spent in the period 1 August 2022 to 31 July 2023 (except in relation to research internships where up to 50% of the internship funding can be spent in the current 2021-22 financial year).

The focus of JA23 is on Applied Research Excellence in the context of REF2026. 

  • Funding is available to develop research which will have an impact on REF2026 
  • In line with our TIRI philosophy, there must be clear benefits, opportunities for involvement and inspirational experiences for our students (either as part of the research or through the outputs of research) – particularly in relation to academic achievement, employment and enterprise, broadly construed.
  • The best bids from ECRs will be a priority for funding.
  • Bids should focus on applied aspects which can strengthen the content and delivery of the curriculum.
  • Bids which focus on innovative, discipline-based research developments are particularly welcome.
  • JA23 bids can also include an application for a Research Internship and up to £3,000 per internship of additional related costs.

The criteria on which all submissions will be judged are:

  • The extent to which the proposal supports the TIRI agenda and the University’s Research Strategy, that is: “improves the quality of research activities which support teaching”.
  • The extent to which the proposal is likely to lead to improved institutional outcomes (including impact) in the relevant field in the context of REF2026.
  • Overall value for money.

​Please note that ‘value for money’ includes consideration of the added value of an award in the context of other awards likely to be made in the given year.
