Event Review: National Grid – Distribution Future Energy Scenarios
The seminar Distribution Future Energy Scenarios was delivered by Hannah Lewis and Peter Gaskin, working in the Forecasting and Capacity team of National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED), at 2 pm on 8th June 2023. The topic for the seminar is Forecasting and Analysis. They provide an insight into the planning and operation of the UK grid. They present a description of how they developed their Distributed Future Energy Scenarios (DFES), how these scenarios are used in practice and the resulting decisions on grid flexibility and reinforcement. The event was attended by 40 in-person attendees and chaired by Dr Daniel Donaldson.
First, Peter gave an introduction to the distribution network, NGED and its responsibilities and planning process, then Hannal explained the different types of forecasts, such as quantity and quality, the DFES framework. She interacted with the audience and asked questions such as what the network constraints are and what is required for detailed network analysis. Peter gave a thorough description of network modelling etc.
The presentation lasted for around 1 hour and was followed by a 20-minute Q&A session in which Hannah and Peter explained in detail on questions raised by the audience. After this, everyone enjoyed the prepared refreshments and exchanged ideas.
