Modelling and Simulation of Traction Power by Dr Dena Servatian

April 19, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm BST

Dr Dena Servatian is an Electrical Engineer with a background of studying and working on Traction Power Systems, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Earthing and Bonding (E&B) and Energy Storage Systems for electrified railways. She has been qualified for a PhD Degree on a thesis titled “Methods for the Characterisation of Hybrid Energy Storage Systems for Independently Powered Trains” at the University of Birmingham, where she worked on modelling on-board energy storage systems. She works in Atkins’ Electrical Systems Team and has got experience on modelling railway electrification systems in the UK and Canada rail market, including HS2 Electrification System Modelling Project and Canadian RER Traction Power Modelling Project.

Abstract: In the past decades, due to the emerging complexity of railway systems and their subsystems, carrying out a further analysis of different characteristics of the network has played a key role in rail market. Electrification system simulation is an essential aspect of the design of an energy efficient, reliable and safe railway system. Modelling increases adaptability and enhancements remarkably through the project life cycle, from design stage to validation, verification (V&V) and commissioning. In order to carry out modelling effectively, it is essential to increase knowledge on characteristics and capabilities of modelling software as well as the information required to build model.
