Abstract: Members from National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) will be joining us to provide insight into the planning and operation of the UK electricity network. They will describe how they develop their distribution future energy scenarios (DFES), how these scenarios are used in practice, and the resulting decisions on flexibility and reinforcement of the grid. This will serve as a fantastic opportunity to inform your current research projects and engage with industry.
Biography:
Hannah Lewis studied Chemistry at Warwick University for the undergraduate degree , before working for a year in Ministry of Defence. She then studied for a MSc in Energy and Sustainability (research project: Assessing the impacts of climate change on hydropower in Cameroon, and the augmentation of wind and solar generation) at the University of Southampton, after which she joined the grad scheme at WPD (now NGED) in September 2020. After completing placements in various teams and departments across the business, Hannah Lewis joined the Forecasting & Capacity team, focussing on the Distribution Future Energy Scenarios.
Peter Gaskin graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2020 with a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering (carrying out a dissertation on hydrogen purification) before joining Western Power Distribution’s (now National Grid Electricity Distribution) graduate scheme. Since joining NGED he has worked in the Forecasting and Capacity team within the Distribution System Operator on a number of projects, including work on their latest Business Plan, analysing flexibility requirements and studying the network in the East Midlands to identify existing and future constraints.”
Following the event there will be a networking reception with refreshments to celebrate the completion of exams.
