WIE Student Branch at UniMelb
The Wie Affinity Group of the Student Branch aims to support and encourage young students to pursue careers in the field of science and engineering through activities and the execution of projects, meetings and conferences. Within its main activities are the organization and participation in talks, generation of knowledge through research, development and implementation framed in new technologies. The student branches of the IEEE are a meeting point to address more in the world of engineering, while knowing people with whom they share the same interests.

Chair: Lili Chen
Lili Chen is currently a third-year PhD student in the Electrical and Electronic department. Prior to that, she received her Master of Electrical Engineering degree with distinction at the University of Melbourne in 2021. She was awarded a Melbourne Research Scholarship for her PhD and her current research is focused on machine learning aided resource management in wireless communications. Outside the research, she likes going to gym, crocheting and watching the footy. Fun fact: Lili can do pull-ups
Vice Chair: Yuxin Ren
Yuxin Ren is currently a second-year Master student of Software Engineering at The University of Melbourne. She is passionate about facilitating positive and meaningful conversations among women engineers and sharing their experiences. In her spare time, she enjoys fitness and cooking.
Secretary: Haiyi Ye
Haiyi Ye is a second-year PhD candidate in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering department. Her research focuses on utilizing large biological data and computational modeling to help vaccine design for Hepatitis C Virus, tackling the challenges posed by its genetic diversity. When she’s not immersed in her research, Haiyi enjoys exploring diverse cuisines, always on the lookout for exciting new dishes. Beyond her passion for food, she is an avid traveler, enjoys photography, and loves staying active through activities like singing and badminton.
Secretary: Xining Nan
Xining Nan is currently pursuing a two-year Master’s degree in Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. Alongside her studies, she serves as the Secretary of the Women in Engineering club, where she is dedicated to supporting and empowering women in STEM fields. She is also learning to ride a unicycle, which has been an exciting challenge. If you’re interested, she would love you to practice with her!
Treasurer: Gayani Siriwardana
Gayani is a first year PhD student in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne. She received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Her research area is wireless communications.
Activity Organiser: Connie Leong
Connie is a recent graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computing and Software Systems from the University of Melbourne, and she is now pursuing a Master’s degree in Information Technology at the same institution. With a strong passion for fostering diversity in STEM fields, Connie is excited to contribute as an Activity Organizer for her club. In her leisure time, she enjoys playing badminton and crocheting.
Activity Organiser: Ran Shi
Ran holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from XJTLU, China, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, specializing in Low Carbon Power Systems. She is a vegetarian and enjoys reading, learning new things, and participating in various volunteer activities to help those in need.
Activity Organiser: Roshni Hamsakutty
Roshni Hamsakutty is a Master of Engineering Management student at the University of Melbourne, having joined in the second semester of 2024. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in B.E. (Hons.) Electronics & Communications Engineering in the UAE, where she also grew up. Roshni has work experience in the IT Infrastructure & Project Management field. She looks forward to engaging with and learning from the women in the engineering community at UniMelb.
