Researchers Flash Talk Challenge - UNIBO IEEE Student Branch

We are pleased to invite you to the inaugural of the ‘Researchers Flash Talk Challenge’ event, organized by the IEEE Student Branch of Bologna in collaboration with UniboARICART-ERBI-REXMINERVA, and INFN. 

The event gives PhD students and post-doc the opportunity to improve their public speech and compete for delivering the best presentation. 
Deadline for the registration as a competitor is on 30 August! (see last section)

How will it work? 

The event comprises two parts: 

1. Online workshop (3 October, 10.00am to 01:00pm): Held by communication experts from ART-ER, this workshop will provide valuable insights and techniques for effectively communicating your research as a pitch.  The workshop is closed to the selected participants – the link will be provided later. 

2. In-presence event (11 October, 10:00am to 05.00pm, approx): Participants will be invited to BI-REX for a guided tour, then attend a roundtable session held by experts in the field of Open Science. Finally, after an interactive lunch, the participants will present their research in a 5-minute presentation as taught in the online workshop. The day will conclude with the awards ceremony. 

Why attending? 

The goal of the event is to teach participants to present their research topics in a simple, concise, and impactful manner, thanks to the training session held by experts in the field. It will also be an opportunity to network and discover job opportunities and collaborations with other researchers and entities! 

Who is invited? 

The invitation is open to any PhD students and Post-Doc whose research topics fit within at least one of the IEEE SocietiesThe event also extends to nearby Universities.

How to be selected? 

It’s simple: fill the form before 8th September.

We will select about 15 participants based on the clarity of explanation of the research topic and the interest according to the collaborations/internships/job opportunities that are likely to be discovered during the event thanks to the organizers (especially BI-REX and INFN).

2nd European CanSat Competition - UNIBS IEEE Student Branch

The “European CanSat competition” is a competition between teams composed of university students, organized by the Student Branch IEEE Brescia STB1019, financed by the University of Brescia. Each team is composed of 2 to 5 members.

The competition will take place on 23, 24 and 25 October 2024, in Brescia, Italy. A maximum of 10 teams can participate in the competition, and registration is free. The costs of accommodation and travel, as well as the organization, are to be borne by the participants.

CanSat is a simulation of a real satellite. All components are housed within a can up to 350 ml. CanSat offers an accessible way to acquire basic knowledge and skills of space engineering for teachers and students, The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report on the European Commission’s work in this field.

The rockets for the launch campaign will be provided by the organiser. The rocket will deploy its own parachute at apogee, along with the CanSat. Immediately after apogee (0-2 seconds later), the CanSat will separate from the rocket and descend with a separate parachute. The CanSat will reach a height of between 150 and 250 metres. The CanSat shall measure air pollution after release and transmit this data as telemetry to the ground station at least once every 2 seconds. All extra data collected and analysed by CanSat will be evaluated positively.
