In a dynamic and knowledge-rich experience, interns from the Centre of Intelligence of Things (CIoTh) at the University of Greater Manchester (UoGM) embarked on an exclusive field trip to SCAN Computers—a globally recognised leader in cutting-edge technology across PC components, gaming, AI infrastructure, and a strategic partner of NVIDIA. The visit was led by Professor Celestine Iwendi, Head of the Centre of Intelligence of Things and a current candidate for the Chair of the IEEE Computer Society UK and Ireland Section. The goal was to strengthen university–industry collaboration across the UK and Ireland while providing students with hands-on exposure to real-world applications in AI, IoT, robotics, data centres, cloud infrastructure, and high-performance computing.
During the visit, the interns toured SCAN’s state-of-the-art research and production facilities, including the production lab, marketing studio, warehouse, and simulation centre. Here, they witnessed firsthand the transformative power of SCAN-driven innovations and engaged with cutting-edge AI systems in live demonstrations. The experience went beyond observation—interns engaged actively with SCAN’s research and engineering teams, gaining valuable insights into emerging career paths, collaborative research opportunities, and SCAN’s ongoing partnership with the University of Greater Manchester.
Reflecting on the visit, Salome Uwah, the IEEE University of Greater Manchester Women in Engineering (WIE) Chair, shared:
“Seeing SCAN’s AI technology in action was truly inspiring. It’s amazing to witness how partnerships like this are transforming industries and driving real innovation.”
This successful visit marks an exciting new chapter in CIoTh’s mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry. The Centre is committed to deepening its collaboration with SCAN, paving the way for future breakthroughs in AI-powered intelligence, smart automation, and real-time computing solutions.
In the words of Professor Celestine Iwendi:
“We believe that through this partnership, SCAN and the University of Greater Manchester will lead the way in the UK and Ireland in the next wave of high-performance computing.”
